What are the benefits of CBD Oil? What is CBD Oil?

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

What is CBD?

CBD is the abbreviation for Cannabidiol. CBD/cannabidiol is one of several compounds in cannabis which are called cannabinoids. The two most abundant cannabinoids in cannabis are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). CBD is the cannabinoid with all the beneficial properties. THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid responsible for the marijuana “High” feeling. By using the CBD component of this plant alone, we can experience the benefits without the psychoactive properties or breaking any federal laws. Making it a natural and safe option for virtually anyone, kids to elderly people. How do we do that? The answer is Hemp.

Hemp:

Hemp is the cannabis sativa plant that contains less than 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). This lack of THC is the distinction between marijuana an hemp. Although the THC is still there, it is a very minimal amount. This makes the hemp plant the perfect option for potentially helping with a long list of uses.

Legal / changes

The Hemp plant has recently been legalized for cultivation. This change is the result of hemp no longer having the negative image of hemp being associated with marijuana. People everywhere are realizing the potential benefits of this amazing plant. Hemp has previously been on the DEA’s controlled substance list, making widespread studying and testing of its healing properties difficult. Now with this change in legal status the potential medical benefits of the hemp plant can truly be discovered.

Will CBD get you High?

NO, CBD will not get you high. The beneficial cannabinoids in CBD oil are non-psychoactive. Meaning they do not alter your mental state or cause you to feel “high”, or any mental or physical sensation that is normally associated with cannabis or marijuana. CBD oil can have no THC, or minimal traces of THC depending on the brand and manufacturers extracting process.

Is there THC in CBD?

CBD oil can be extracted from the marijuana plant or the hemp plant. All CBD can contain THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), Which is the cannabinoid responsible for the famous “high” from marijuana. THC can be counterproductive to the benefits of other cannabinoids and is usually filtered out of CBD products, But not completely.

So, Can CBD make you fail a drug test? Depending on the extracting process there can still be trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC left in the CBD oil.  If THC being present in your CBD pills/CBD oil is a problem for you (like it is for many people) then you want to pay attention to the cannabinoid percent levels that are present in the brand you are looking into. If the test shows less than 0.3% THC they consider it to not contain THC. This is a very low level and probably won’t be a problem for you. BUT, probably isn’t a good enough to people whose jobs depend on this answer. Don’t worry, there are CBD products with literally NO THC in them. (at least not detectable by advanced testing methods) With more advanced extracting manufacturers are able to completely take out all THC. These are the products that when tested will show “NO THC Detected” on the certificate of analysis (COA).

CBD products derived from the hemp plant rather than the marijuana plant are going to be the safest bet when it comes to THC levels in your CBD oil. Again, some of them can still have trace amounts. This is where looking into the testing of the product can help you make this decision. You will want a hemp CBD product that has been tested and shows that “NO THC has been detected”. This will assure you that no THC will be introduced into your body. Even if a CBD product is from the hemp plant be sure that it says “THC free”. To be even more sure of this, check the certificate of analysis for the cannabinoid levels present in the product. You are looking for “0.00”, “ND” or “not detected” in the THC section of the test.

Where can I buy CBD?

There are a lot of companies that sell CBD products. With this number growing at an astounding rate, finding where to buy your CBD oil is getting easier. Do your research when choosing CBD, like you are doing now buy reading this article and find out what you are looking for. Do you want sublingual oil, CBD oil Capsules/ CBD pills, topical cream etc.  As mentioned before, if you have a concern about what cannabinoids are present you will want to make sure the company you are buying from can show you a certificate of analysis. If you are not concerned about this, it is still a good idea because a company that is testing their product shows that they care about the consistency and quality of the product they sell. You can just type “CBD near me” in your google maps and probably find a store within driving distance of you. Or, like most people you can purchase CBD from an online CBD seller.

Where NOT to buy CBD oil.

Just a note of caution: If you order things from Amazon (like most of us do), CBD is probably one thing you do not want to get through them. Amazon does not allow CBD products to be sold on their platform. Anything you order there will be a hemp extract oil not containing CBD. This is confusing for people because when they look up CBD oil on Amazon, they are shown many options. If you read closely these products will not actually say anything about CBD or cannabidiol. (if they do they run the risk of being banned from amazon selling.) So, if you’re wanting CBD oil, CBD pills, CBD capsules etc. You will want to buy them from somewhere else.
